THE Showgrounds on Warden Street has been the home of senior football in Ballymena since 1928, when the council granted Ballymena FC permission to use the ground for their first season in Irish League football.

The ground has changed a lot during the years from the old wooden stand, which was burnt down in 1977, to the Warden Street stand; from the Clock Stand to the new Grandstand; and recently the end of the O'Kane stand which came down in 2006 - the Showgrounds is one of the few grounds in Northern Irish football has been at the forefront of change with time.

Now the stadium is home to some of the best facilities in Irish League football. With a seating capacity of approximately 3,000, the capacity of the ground including the terracing stands at 5,000.

The wheels are also in motion to refurbish the Warden Street stand, to increase the capacity and increase the quality of the Warden Street venue.

The Showgrounds complex offers just more than a football stadium, as it holds a further four full sized football pitches, an astro-turf pitch and a gravel pitch. One of the pitches is used by Irish League Second Division side, Wakehurst and the rest of the pitches are constantly used by various youth and amateur teams making the Showgrounds a thriving football environment.
