RELEGATION became a reality at the Showgrounds this season, as the Sky Blues cruelly went down to the First Division on the last day of the season. However it didn't start this badly as Nigel Best's team started the season in fantastic form, drawing with Cliftonville and Glentoran before demolishing Coleraine and Crusaders in the first four games. It however, went all downhill after that. Best was sacked in December after another dismal defeat - this time away to Newry Town, ending his 18-month tenure at the Showgrounds. Club physio, George Magill, took charge over the festive period before the new manager was installed in January. That man was former-Coleraine supremo Kenny Shiels, who couldn't prevent his new side finishing tenth in the league, despite being undefeated in their final five league games and finished just one point away from ninth after drawing with Portadown on the final day. If the league form was bad, the cup form was just as bad. The Irish Cup saw a seven round exit to the hands of Glenavon after a replay, and a quarter-final in the County Antrim Shield against Linfield ended predictably. There were also first round defeats in both the Gold Cup and League Cup. Nigel Boyd made the most first team appearances with 39 from the 43 games. Scottish born, Scott Drummond finished leading scorer with eight goals despite being released in February by Shiels, joining Larne.
