BALLYMENA United went through three managers in the one season in a vain attempt to gain a place in the new Irish Premier League. United needed a miracle in order to finish high enough in the League to qualify for the new league, after a poor 11th place finish the season before. Big money was invested in order to achieve the dream, that included former Portadown legend - Steve Cowan. Tommy Jackson's abysmal twelve months ended in October 1994, after a poor start to the season. Cowan had failed to deliever and disappeared home. Former player, Gary Erwin took over and infamously defeated Linfield at home in his first game. That was to be one of the very few highlights as the Sky Blues finished 12th and were confined to the barren lands of the First Divison for the following season. In March, Erwin was dismissed and former Glenavon boss Alan Fraser came in, in preparation for a promotion push next year. The cup competitions proved no better as Omagh Town dumped the Braidmen out of the Irish Cup at the first hurdle. Humiliating early exits in virtually all the cup competitions followed. With only a Gold Cup quarter-final to show. Trevor McMullan was an ever-present in the side, playing 42 times, and young striker Barry Patton finished top goalscorer with 13 goals, following his move from Omagh Town.
