Born on the 27th July, 1986, Donegal born striker Davitt Walsh is currently signed on loan from League of Ireland side Bohemians, until January.

After starting out at Donegal based Intermediate side, Fanad United, he moved to Derry City before the start of the 2005 Eircom League season then managed by Stephen Kenny. He, however, failed to make an impact on the first team and the 19-year-old striker spent the season in the Under-21 (reserve) team, as Kenny’s revamped Candystipes finished second in the top flight of the Republic of Ireland.

In February 2006, Davitt dropped down a division and joined Finn Harps in search of first-team football – Harps were then managed by former Coleraine midfielder Tony Gorman. He made his first team debut in a League Cup tie against Galway United in April 2006, which the Finn Park side won on penalties.

Walsh scored his first goal for Finn Harps in May, scoring the third of a 3-1 victory over Dundalk - a game in which United defender Simon Kelly scored for Dundalk. The energetic forward was starting to make a big impression in the First Division after scoring a hat-trick in the win over Monaghan United. He finished the season with nine goals in his first year in senior football.

In January 2007, he joined Dublin side Bohemians after coming out of contract at Harps. Belfast-born manager Sean Connor offered the 21-year-old striker a two-year professional contract at Dalymount Park. However, he didn't have time to settle at the 'Gypsies' as he was allowed to join fallen giants, Shelbourne in February.

Shels, who won the Eircom Premier League only a few months earlier, had been demoted to the second-tier of Southern football due to financial irregularities, prompting a mass exodus as the Tolka Park club were on the verge of going under. Dermot Keely just managed to compile a squad for the 2007 campaign. He signed Davitt on a six-month loan deal from Bohs.

He made his debut in the red of Shelbourne in March 2007 against Kildare County. His first, and only, goal for the Tolka Park side ironically came against Finn Harps in his side’s defeat at his former hunting ground. Despite his poor return of one goal in twelve games - he was revered by supporters for his effort and commitment.

His loan spell ended on the 1st July, and returned to Bohemians - only for Sean Connor to allow him to go on loan again – this time up North to join Ballymena United until January. Walsh signed on the 24th July, and made his first appearance in a pre-season friendly against Tobermore United, just days after his 22nd birthday.

His competitive debut was delayed by a minor throat operation, but made his first appearances for the Sky Blues in the County Antrim Shield first round on 28th September, against Orangefield Old Boys. Davitt made an instant impression scoring a hat-trick on his debut.

Walsh clocked up an impressive 10 goals in 24 games in his first season at the Showgrounds, after signing permanently in January for an undisclosed fee from Bohemians on a two and a half year contract.

The sky blue faithful will be hoping the dynamic striker can carry on scoring next season.
