ROY Walker's policy of bringing exciting local talent to the Showgrounds was furthered this summer by the arrival of Junior International, Mark Surgenor.

Local lad, Surgenor, was previously a student at Cambridge House and began his football career in the Ballymena Saturday Morning League with Braid United as an energetic striker. He also had a spell at Broughshane based Ballymena Premier League side Raceview.

It was only when he moved to Ballymoney United two seasons ago when he was transformed into one of the best young centre-halves in the Championship under the guidance of former United favourite Joe McCall - a transformation which earned Mark a call-up the Junior International side last season.

Surgenor also starred for UUJ side in the Collingwood Cup, Ireland's most prestigious Unversity football competition - again his performances earned him International recognition when he selected for the World Student games in Serbia in July 2009.

Despite a lack of experience in the top division, Ballymena United beat a number of fellow Premiership clubs to Surgenor's signature this summer and the United fans will be hoping he turns out to be the newest local hero at Warden Street.
