STRIKER Paul McNeill is another example of the quality produced by the Ballymena United Youth system in recent years. After a short spell in senior football with Arthur McClean's Demesne Strollers side, local-lad Paul took the step up to Ballymena United where his progression from the youth team to the first team was as quick as McNeill himself. Paul played his part in the club's Reserve League Championship in 2007 and made his first team break-through the following season; making his debut as a substitute against Donegal Celitc in the County Antrim Shield.

His raw pace and tenacity earned him many admirers at the club as he despite a limited number of starts he continues to score goals, and finished top goalscorer for the Reserves last season. A new contract was signed in the summer ahead of what will be a big season for McNeill - but given Walker's desire for local players to play in important role - he may just fit the bill.
