United got off to the worst start possible in Crumlin, a long ball breaking the offside trap allowing the home side to grab an early goal. With 20 minutes on the clock it wasn't clicking for Ballymena United apart from Johnny McMurray having a few chances and Kevin Braniff showing some great touches.

A Tony Kane free kick and another chance for McMurray both went narrowly wide of the post, giving the Sky Blues some hope that they could turn the deficit around. On 26 minutes Braniff went on a run and sent a lovely pass through to Fra McCaffrey who teed up Tony Kane to fire home from the edge of the box and level the scores.
At the very start of the second half McCaffrey had a chance but shot straight at the keeper.
With just over an hour gone Steven McCullough rattled the crossbar with a free kick and McMurray headed the rebound over. On 72 minutes Trailist headed home from a Tony Kane corner to put United 2-1 ahead.
