DAVITT WALSH RELEASED
(Sunday, 26th July, 2009)

DAVITT Walsh has had his contract with Ballymena United cancelled by mutual consent.

The Donegal based striker initially joined the club on loan in August 2007 when former manager Tommy Wright signed him from Bohemians. Walsh made an instant impact at the Showgrounds when he scored a hat-trick on his competitive debut against Orangefield OB in the County Antrim Shield.

He signed on a permanent basis in January 2008 from Bohemians, signing a two and a half year contract at the Showgrounds having also had spells at Derry City, Finn Harps and Shelbourne.

In his two seasons at the club he made 47 appearances, scoring 12 goals. However, he only managed two goals last season - one of which was the first goal of Roy Walker's tenure against Ballyclare last August.

Manager Roy Walker told the Newsletter "Davitt has been released and the matter was dealt with amicably." Prior to his release the striker had been interesting Eircom League side, Sligo Rovers.
