THOMAS WRAY RELEASED
(Saturday, 23rd May, 2009)

The upheaval at the Ballymena Showgrounds continues this month with the departure of Thomas Wray.

Defender Thomas Wray has not been offered a new contract with Ballymena United, after spending two years at the Showgrounds since his move from Dungannon Swifts.

The 25-year-old full-back began his career at Leeds United before returning for spells at his native Institute and Dungannon Swifts before being snapped up by former manager Tommy Wright in May 2007.

Wray spent a large period last season as an orthodox central midfielder, but managed 53 appearances and scoring three goals during his two seasons. He will be best remembered for scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Coleraine in April 2008.

Manager Roy Walker commented "Unfortunately, we are not in a possition to offer Tommy a new contract, however I hold the player in high regard and wish him all the best in future."

It is believed that Wray is currently talking to his former-club Institute regarding a contract for next season, as this makes him the seventh departure this month following Alan Blayney, Stuart King, Neil Teggart, Thomas Burke, Liam Mullan and Gavin Melaugh.

Manager Roy Walker also indicated that a few of this other transfer listed players are talking to other clubs.

"Mickey Ward is holding talks with Dungannon Swifts, whilst Davitt Walsh and Gavin McDonnell have both been equired about by Sligo Rovers - however all three are at the very early stages of discussions."
