FITZGERALD OFF TO THE GOLD COAST
(Tuesday, 4th March, 2008)

STRIKER Darren Fitzgerald has signed with First Division title-challengers Bangor on loan until the end of the season.

Fitzgerald has struggled to hold down a place in Tommy Wright’s first team this season and has mainly featured for the Reserves this term.

Coupled with the January signings of Davitt Walsh from Bohemians and Michael Ward from Glentoran, the Shankill Road born striker has dropped further down the pecking order at the Showgrounds.

Formerly with Glasgow Rangers and Glentoran, Darren was signed by former Ballymena United manager Kenny Shiels, in January 2005, from Ards.

Just as he was hitting form towards the end of the 2004/05 season, disaster struck as he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury against his former club, Ards; this left Fitzgerald on the sidelines for 18 months.

Since then he has struggled for form in a Ballymena United shirt, however he earned a new two year contract extension last season, which will expire at the end of the 2008/09 season.
