FLYNN OFF TO BLACKBURN TRIAL
(Tuesday, 13th November, 2007)

TEENAGE defender Johnny Flynn has left for a week's trial with English Premier League side, Blackburn Rovers.

Flynn, who collected the Seven Towers’ Player of the Month award for October before the game against Limavady United just returned from Cyprus last week after being away on international duty with the Northern Ireland Under-19 side.

18-year-old Flynn, was a key player in the Ballymena United Reserves side which steamrolled their way to the Carnegie Reserve League championship last season.

He made his first team debut in August against Orangefield in the County Antrim Shield as a substitute, and scored on his full debut against Crusaders in the semi-finals of the same competition.

Since then the West Belfast central defender has been a regular in the first-team and certainly not looking out of place against strikers of the calibre of Gary Hamilton, Peter Thompson and Andy Smith.

He was an unused substitute in Saturday’s comfortable win over Limavady and flew over on Sunday to begin his week long stint in Lancashire.

United boss Tommy Wright has no qualms about a possible move; "We'll give him every opportunity to go and do well and he goes with the best wishes of the club and hopefully he can get a move," he said.

"I think the potential is there and I hope they see that because I think if he was to get into full-time football he can go a long way."

His hosts for the forthcoming week suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.
