Ballymena United League Cup Winners & Awards Night 2016/17

THE annual end-of-season dinner and awards night took place in the Des Allen Suite on Saturday 13th May.
After a fantastic season, the best since 1981, ended with qualification for next season's Europa League competition courtesy of Friday night's victory over Glenavon, the venue was packed with delighted officials, players and supporters. Compere for the night, BBC Sport NI's Michael Clarke, was quick to congratulate the Club on their achievements over the course of the season, including beating his own beloved Carrick Rangers in the final of the Northern Ireland League Cup, before informing the guests that a few of the players were delayed due to one of them having split their dress!

After prayers said by Club Chaplain Rev. Alistair Beattie, a very enjoyable dinner was served before the main event - the presentation of the awards.

Michael Clarke began by asking the Club Chairman, John Taggart, manager David Jeffrey and his assistant Bryan McLoughlin for their thoughts on the season past and some of the stories the audience heard were incredibly entertaining and, in some parts, not to be repeated in public! It's also fair to say that the officials, players and supporters were all delighted to hear the "dulcet" tones of David Jeffrey leading the way with a rendition of "Happy Birthday" (to Under 20's manager Paul Harbinson) followed by a few other songs (no Clubs were harmed in the course of the evening!)

After the Youth Academy awards were presented, it was onto the officials and senior squad, and all are detailed below.

After the awards were presented, a ballot with plenty of prizes took place, ending the night on a very happy note for quite a few people!
Ballymena United Football Club would like to extend their thanks to Club Supporters Liaison Officer Philip Simpson for the incredibly hard work he put into the organisation of the night; compere for the evening Michael Clarke for the professionalism shown; all those who were in attendance for supporting the event; and last, but certainly not least, the catering team for the great food and efficiency with which it was served.
