BALLYMENA UNITED RESERVES 4-0 DUNAGHY
Saturday, 3rd November, 2007; WKD Intermediate Cup Round 1

UNITED'S Reserves marched into the next round of the WKD Intermediate Cup after a comfortable 4-0 over Ballymoney side Dunaghy.

It was half an hour before the Sky Blues got going and took the lead after a determined start from the Ballymena & Provincial Intermediate League strugglers.

It was stand-in captain, Gary Baird (pictured), who turned in the penalty area and fired low past the Dunaghy goalkeeper on 28 minutes to open the scoring.

Striker Randal Reid fired the second home just six minutes later, when he pounced on a defensive mistake before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting home. This was the Randalstown forward's fifth goal of the season, which includes four for the Reserves and one for the senior team.

This took David Dorrian's side into the break, two goals to the good and in control.

United came out in the second half and looked for the match-winning third, after keeping Dunaghy in their half for the first quarter of an hour of the half - the third came on 63 minutes.

George Young's defence splitting pass drew Dunaghy's goalkeeper off his line, however Lee Colligan nipped in to beat the 'keeper and finish well under pressure from the edge of the box.

United got a fourth ten minutes from time to round off a good days work. It was substitute Daryl Brammeld who showed good feet in the box and then a classy finish for his first goal of the season, after good work from the excellent Gary Baird.

Ballymena United's Reserves will now enter Thursday's draw for the Second Round of the WKD Intermediate Cup.
