GLENAVON RESERVES 1-2 BALLYMENA UNITED RESERVES
Monday, 17th September 2007; George Wilson Cup

JIMMY Crawford scored twice at Mourneview Park, as United's second string get back to winning ways in the George Wilson Cup.

The 'Wee Sky Blues' currently sit top of their George Wilson Cup group, needing Linfield Swifts to slip up against Glenavon Reserves in the final group game this Tuesday.

Ballymena opened the scoring after just 11 minutes, when Andy Long's cross was met by Crawford, who headed past former Ballymena keeper, William McFrederick, for the opening goal.

The former Lisburn Distillery striker got his fourth goal of the season - and second of the night on 23 minutes with a great team goal. Great interchanging play between Nigel Boyd, Gavin Melaugh and Crawford forced the ball out to David Cushley on the left.

The tricky winger (pictured), who impressed for the first team on Saturday, drilled in a superb cross which Crawford volleyed home to finish off a great move.

The Glenavon Reserves included former Northern Ireland international, Gerard McMahon, and they pulled a goal back - but the game finished 2-1 in favour of David Dorrian's side.

The Reserves kick-off the defence of the Carnegie Reserve League title ironically at home to Glenavon this Saturday at the Showgrounds, with a 2.30pm kick-off.
