With just one point from a possible 24 the Whites are rooted to the foot of the Carling Premiership table and disgruntled supporters jeered Brown as he made his way down the tunnel after the 2-0 defeat to Ballymena United.

With six changes to the line-up from Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Cliftonville the Whites started a much improved side from the weekend, more drive, more passion, but Andy Smith should have scored for United on 20 minutes after Philip Matthews had made a super stop to deny Nathan McConnell.

Smith hit the side netting from a matter of yards out, but United only had to wait three minutes before taking the lead with David Cushley lashing home from the edge of the box after a throw-in.

The home side did respond with their best effort coming on 33 minutes when Dwayne Nelson blocked a shot from Neal Gawley. Whites' captain Dave Rogers then cleared off the line before Darren Lockhart scored seconds later when he bravely dived in to head home a corner on 37 minutes.

In first-half injury time Matthews denied Philip Carson when he saved with his legs.

The impressive Matthews then made a good save to keep out an angled drive from Smith on 64 minutes and Lockhart sneaked in for another header which when wide twelve minutes from time.
