The game marked the opening of the Antrim club's new stand which was erected as part of the stipulations of entry into the IFA Championship 2 for the forthcoming season.

Just after kick-off the heavens opened and the rain poured down on what was a very poor spectacle as it took just under half an hour for United muster their first chance when Nathan McConnell headed an easy chance over the bar.

By this stage Ballymena United had already made their first change of the game as former International striker Andy Smith was forced off with an ankle injury after a rash tackle by a home defender on 12 minutes, he was replaced by Paul McNeill.

McNeill missed another goalden opportunity from a Cushley cross but went onto open the scoring just before the interval when Ormo Okunaiya's cross was met by David Cushley, his effort was only parried out by the goalkeeper to local-lad McNeill who bundled the ball home.
