[2-1] KELBIE, Kevin (67 mins)

KEVIN Kelbie signed a new two-year extension to his United contract during the week - he showed his worth with two goals against Insitute.

The in-form Scot (pictured) notched his seventh goal in eight appearances, as in-form Ballymena grinded out a result against Liam Beckett's struggling Institute side.

The 2-1 victory was yet another fantastic result in what is now turning into an incredible run of form, as the Sky Blues have won seven of their last eight league games and have jumped from thirteenth to fourth in the league.

First half action was few and far between at the Showgrounds though, as Institute's front two looked low on ability and confidence as Andy Crawford fired a good chance well over early on.

David Ogilby came close for the Londonderry side just after the half-hour as he headed attempt was held well by Murphy in the Ballymena United goal.

It took until stoppage-time in the first half for either side to open the scoring, as Simon Kelly's throw-in was poorly controlled by Ogilby. His slip allowed Kelbie to capitalise and drill the loose ball past Doherty to give the Braidmen the lead.

The second half was much of the same as either side battled hard in midfield with few clear-cut chances of note.

Institute equalised in the 57th minute when Martin Cutmore's weak cross was deflected off United captain Albert Watson at the near post and crept in with Paul Murphy stranded.

In a day of defensive howlers, United capitalised on probably the worst of the lot - as Doherty's poor attempt at clearing a harmless back-pass, landed straight to Kevin Kelbie and the Scottish striker took great ease in slotting the ball home for the winner on 69 minutes.

This was Kelbie's 40th goal in United colours as Tommy Wright's side sealed their fourth straight victory to keep them in fourth place - and now only four points behind third place Glentoran.
