BALLYMENA UNITED 1 - 1 NEWRY CITY
(Carnegie Premier League; 28th April 2007)

BALLYMENA UNITED rounded off the season with a one goal each draw against Newry City, the single Sky Blues goal coming from Garth Scates.

Newry City ended their four match losing streak with this draw against a Ballymena United side who are now unbeaten at home since late January.

Visitors Newry opened the scoring on 23 minutes when a Paul Donegan clearance fell for Andy Crawford who played the ball through for James Willis to volley home from around 25 yards.

And he might have added a second nine minutes later only to fire wide from 16 yards after Cormac McArdle created the opening.

Ballymena came close to levelling on 69 minutes through leading scorer Kevin Kelbie but he pulled his shot. However, the Sky Blues did level five minutes later when Garth Scates lobbed keeper Andy Coleman after he found himself stranded coming for a loose ball.

The Sky Blues had the ball in the net again on 77 minutes but Simon Kelly's header was ruled out by referee Stephen Moran who spotted an infringement by substitute Aidan Watson leading up to the 'goal'.
